Media Announcement: March 5, 2013

Oxenberg Fine Art to present sculptures by James Croak and paintings by Ashley Collins, 3/28

Miami, FL, March 5, 2013 – Located in the Miami Wynwood Art District, Oxenberg Fine Art will be presenting an exhibition of sculptures by James Croak and paintings by Ashley Collins, on view at the gallery from March 28, 2013 through April 20, 2013.

Based in Sag Harbor, New York, James Croak has produced a distinctive body of sculpture over the past twenty-five years. Using a variety of innovative materials and techniques, including taxidermy, latex rubber, tar and his trademark cast dirt, Croak creates work of presence and feeling.

Following the establishment of her studio in Venice, California, Ashley Collins has broken ground creating mega–scale, contemporary and layered paintings of horses. Collins’ technique incorporates collage with book pages from the 1800s to mid-1900s, obscured book covers and historical images, among other unique layers. The upcoming exhibition of works at Oxenberg Fine Art will feature a combination of cast dirt and cast resin sculptures by James Croak, along with Ashley Collins’ signature paintings on wooden panels.

“An amazing exhibition not to be missed,“ stated Harvey Oxenberg, Director of Oxenberg Fine Art.

The James Croak and Ashley Collins exhibition will open with a reception for artist James Croak on Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 7-10:00PM. Admission to the reception is complimentary and open to the public; light fare and refreshments will be available.

Oxenberg Fine Art exhibits and represents the work of local, national and international artists, most of whom work in mixed media, painting and sculpture. Additionally, the gallery assists individuals in starting collections and expanding those of seasoned collectors.

Miami, FL, January 11, 2013 – Located in the Miami Wynwood Art District, Oxenberg Fine Art will be presenting “The Artist’s Accomplice,” a selection of paintings and monumental studies by Cesar Santos (Cuban-American, b. 1982). The exhibition will be presented from January 17 – February 18, 2013, following Santos’ sold out presentation of works at the “World of Art Showcase” in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Juxtaposing both classical and modern styles within one painting, Santos’ works have been viewed by international audiences- from the Annigoni Museum in Italy and the Beijing Museum in China, to Chelsea, New York. Santos’ solo exhibitions include: “Paisajes y Retratos (Landscapes and Portraits)” in the National Gallery in San Jose, Costa Rica, “Syncretism” at the Eleanor Ettinger Chelsea Gallery in New York and “New Impressions” at the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio, among many others. Additionally, Santos is influenced by the Renaissance, masters of the nineteenth century and Modernism. With superb technique, he infuses a harmony between the natural and the conceptual to create works that are provocative and dramatic.

Santos has received numerous accolades, including first place in a Metropolitan Museum of Art competition. His work has been exhibited throughout the U.S., Europe and Latin America, including the Frost Art Museum in Miami, the Villa Bardini Museum in Italy and the National Gallery in Costa Rica.

In this premiere solo exhibition, Santos will focus on the influence of his studies in Florence, Italy under an apprentice of Pietro Annigoni (b. 1910-1988) who was active in the innovative “Modern Painters of Reality” movement. In addition to Santos’ noteworthy paintings and respective studies, a mannequin will also be on view, representative of the mannequin in Annigoni’s works which signified the human condition in the modern age; Santos rescues Annigoni’s concept of the mannequin and gives it a new life in the twenty-first century.

Dao Hai Phong (b. 1965) studied at the Hanoi College of Film and Theater from 1982 to 1987 and won an award for his outstanding designs at the Vietnam Film Festival. His main medium is oil on canvas. Although he had painted as a hobby from the age of six, it was only after his graduation that Phong started to focus on developing his unique painting style.

Phong uses a bold palette to depict scenes reminiscent of his childhood and of life as he sees it. His paintings are full of detail but are usually devoid of people and characterized by a peaceful emptiness. An ethereal glow from a light source within a building or the shadows, reflections and mirror images seen in his compositions evoke moods and questions in the viewers mind. Phong’s emotions and genius are embedded in his brilliant pieces. “Painting brings me great pleasure and my works reflect both my optimism and melancholy. Each painting carries some of me with it; my joys, hopes and fears …”

Dao Hai Phong has exhibited widely in Vietnam and abroad. His work is collected by enthusiasts all over the world and is regarded among the finest in contemporary Vietnamese art.
